About Rick

Representative Richard W. "Rick" Cheatum is a dedicated public servant proudly representing District 28A in the Idaho House of Representatives. A Republican with a pragmatic approach, Rick is committed to fiscal responsibility, supporting rural communities, protecting Second Amendment rights, and ensuring fair education funding across Idaho.

Born in Kansas and a graduate of the University of Kansas with a B.S. in broadcast journalism, Rick moved to Pocatello in 1977 and has called Idaho home by choice ever since. After a successful career in broadcasting, automotive sales, and financial services—including roles at Idaho State University Federal Credit Union and Idaho Wireless—he retired in 2017 to focus on community service.

Rick's passion for public service began with his election to the Pocatello City Council in 2017, where he served two terms, including as Council President. He has also been active in the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Idaho Cities Board of Directors, and various local organizations. A life member of the NRA, Rick enjoys hunting, recreational shooting, and reloading ammunition.

Married to Debra for over 30 years, Rick is a father to Nicole and stepfather to Tony. He is honored to serve the people of Bannock, Power, and Franklin Counties, advocating for local solutions, limited government, and a brighter future for all Idahoans.

Rick currently serves on the House committees for Commerce & Human Resources, Local Government, and Revenue & Taxation. He welcomes input from constituents and is always ready to listen.
